Books to the Sky

“Books to the ceiling, Books to the sky, My pile of books is a mile high. How I love them! How I need them! I'll have a long beard by the time I read them.” ― Arnold Lobel

I’ve Got Your Number, Remember Me?, and Wedding Night: A Novel

I've got your numberRemember meWedding night

Sometimes you’re in the mood to read a specific genre and other times you’re in the mood to read a specific author.  That was the case for me this last month. I wanted a Sophie Kinsella book, in other words something light, funny, and clever. I have four of her books which I’ve read multiple times and loaned them out to friends. (The Undomestic Goddess, Twenties Girl, Shopaholic, and Can You Keep A Secret?) Bearing that in mind I went to the library website and was pleased to have three books at my fingertips, ready to read. It’s too bad that what I ended up with was very much a three bears scenario, with only one being just right. Read the rest of this entry »

Bite

The expectations of a book can influence your enjoyment. If I had seen the small print at the top of the cover (one of the problems with ebooks over print books) labeling it as dark seduction, I would have known what to expect. Much of this collection feels more like romance novels, having sex as the main point with a little story wrapped around it. Which I might have enjoyed if I had expected it. I am not against sex in books at all, I just want it to feel like a part of the story (eg: the Argeneau vampire series). I also have a feeling that I’d enjoy this anthology more if I were familiar with the series these stories are tied to. As it is, I really only liked one of the stories.

The Argeneau Vampire series is a unique take on vampirism. The family descends from a few individuals from the city of Atlantis. A group of Atlantean scientists developed organic nanobots to repair damage to their human host. The nanos were designed to die off when the initial damage was repaired. The scientists didn’t count on the fact that the human body endures constant damage (eg. scratches, bacteria, sunlight).  The Argeneaus  don’t like the term vampire either, because technically they are just really long lived, practically immortal, humans.

I am currently re-reading this series in preparation for reading the one or two that I have somehow missed in the past. The Highlander series by Karen Marie Moning is a romance series that revolves around a few clans in Scotland. Read the rest of this entry »
